    Richterbericht von Liz Cartledge / Judge-report: Mrs. Liz Cartledge

    An unbenched 24 class championship show was held by the Irish Terrier Association
    at Tomlinson’s Canine Centre, Markfield, with 39 dogs making 75 entries.

    It was very windy outside so judging took place inside, pity it was blowing a gale as Irish Terriers on green grass look so much more attractive than on black rubber squares.

    There was a little bit of swearing in LD otherwise we had a very peaceful day. Quality was not great in the lower class dog classes & front movement throughout was a worry. There were some low set tail, also a tendency to level toplines instead of the correct, slight & gentle arch over the loin. A few were flying their ears but by & large ears were not a problem. Not a cracked pad in sight, temperaments of course were great. They make a superb family pet, medium sized, sporty & athletic. The breed has changed quite a lot since the Pathfinder & Breezy days but they have certainly retained their dare devil character & animated outlook on life. They must not be just a smart looking terrier – they must also have that unique graceful & racy outline which sets them apart from other terrier breeds. I really like them as a breed & it is obvious that they enjoy participation.

    BIS was the dog, Zodiak Von Der Emsmuehle, all the way from Germany but Mr & Mrs Gruettner come over to our club shows on a regular basis & often walk away with top honours; BOS was Wyndam Rionach at Lakeridge & she was also the dam of the RDCC. Wyndam Nuala at Sonorra was a standout BP & Ch Montelle Mi’Lady, at 11½ is a great advert for the breed, still fit & able bodied with good eyes & teeth, lovely coat & colour.

    BD (1)

    1 Walls’ Saredon Red Hot Attraction, 2 years, masculine outline, dark expressive eyes, skull a little broad, calm steady showman, good body & bone, well muscled hindquarters, standing a little slack in front & front movement could be firmer. Good coat texture.

    MPD (1)

    1 Anderson’s Kerrykeel Ruaraidh, 7½ months, good length of head, well carried ears once he settled, well proportioned, but needs to drop in body & grow into himself. Bit loose in movement all round, tad close behind. Well handled. PD (2) 1 Stahle & Nichols’ Chantelle’s Michael, 10 months, attractive head & eye, needs a little more body, good reach of neck, moved OK behind but must improve in front to progress further;

    2 Bradley’s Royal Edition at Montelle, ‘asbo’ of 9 months, excellent coat texture & body, good bone, legs & feet, keen expression but ears need to settle. Rather uncoordinated in movement, needs time & patience.

    JD (3)

    1 Veillet-Lavallee’s Montelle Design In Gold, yearling, I did not care for his head & expression but has a decent outline, good coat, bone & feet. Moved better than 2 or 3;

    2 C Michael;

    3 Fowler’s Xanwil Squire Stanley.

    ND (2)

    1 M Design In Gold; 2 X Squire Stanley, 12 months, clean & well presented, good feet, failed in tailset & carriage & not moving with any terrier spirit or animation today. Good length of head. Coat not at its best.

    PGD (1)

    1 S Red Hot Attraction.

    LD (4)

    1 Bradley’s Montelle Royal Leader at Sunnystone, 2 years, excellent type & quality, classy head, masculine but no sign of coarseness, expressive eyes, excellent coat texture, good bone & feet, racy outline. Did not quite trust the floor & would move better outside, I am sure. Handsome Irish, his day will come;

    2 Howarth’s Mikes Fergus, 18 months, athletic, fit looking youngster with super coat & condition, shapely body, moved OK, happy showman. Just a bit plain in head for me;

    3 Pratt’s Holbarn Celtic Whisper at Ruffar.

    OD (4,1a)

    1 CC & BIS, Gruettner’s Zodiak Von Der Emsmuehle, eyecatching young dog in good form, fit & well muscled, switched on showman who was interested in all around him, high spirited with good tailset & correct topline, well fitting coat, masculine head, keen expression, well carried ears, good neckline, well placed shoulders, sound mover, showed himself off at all times; 2 RCC, Barker & Averis’ Lakeridge Cahal,

    2 years, great coat & colour, presented to absolute perfection, attractive head, used his neck to advantage, well ribbed back, good feet, moved well behind, could have a little more reach in front which is where Zodiak scored;

    3 Cook’s Montelle Ring Master at Terrahawk.

    NBBE D (2)

    1 Bradley’s Montelle Going For Gold, good size, coat not at its best today, moved & showed steadily, deep chest, keen alert expression;

    2 S Red Hot Attraction.

    BBE D (1)

    1 C Michael.

    BB (4,2)

    1 Nicholson’s Maythorpe Teal, 7½ months, attractive puppy with dark eyes, well carried ears, good reach of neck, shapely body, went well for one so young;

    2 Simons’ Sidewater Ballerina Girl, 4 years, good coat texture, curly tail on the move spoils overall impression. Good length of head, failed in ear carriage.

    MPB (4)

    1 Lovelace’s Polka Dot, 6 months, proper smartie pants as she already has a good idea of what to do to impress. Feminine head with good expression, intelligent eyes, very good body, held topline on the go round, harsh jacket, moved well; 2 M Teal;

    3 Lucas’ Gabledown Dervia.

    PB (3)

    1 BP, Connell’s Wyndam Nuala at Sonorra, 11½ months, quite the finished package among the puppies today. Lovely silhouette, every hair in place, perfectly presented coat of lovely texture, good length of head, expression keen & animated, fit body, deep chest, good tailset & plenty behind the tail, assertive confident showgirl & moved well behind. Needs to strengthen in front movement but she is a great prospect;

    2 M Teal;

    3 Stahle & Nichols’ Chantelle’s Orlagh, 10 months, litter sister to PD winner, not very happy today & needs to move & show with more enthusiasm. Good reach of neck, failed in coat presentation & topline.

    JB (3,1)

    1 Atwell’s Xanwil Sorceress, 12 months, litter sister to 2nd in ND, bright showgirl who made the most of herself standing, pleasing head, dark eyes, racy outline, good coat texture, well arched toes, well shown & handled. Could move with a bit more extension;

    2 C Orlagh.

    NB (6,3)

    1 M Teal;

    2 G Dervia, 7 months, a little overawed by the occasion & not quite relaxed here. Dark eyes giving intelligent expression, good coat & body. Needs to improve in movement generally;

    3 Stahle & Nichols’ Shalicome’s Shenankins.

    PGB (4)

    1 Lucas’ Gabledown Mockingbird, 18 months, easy winner here, quality head, dark eyes, keen expression, clean neckline, firm body, harsh jacket, moved well behind but so so in front, good tail carriage on the move;

    2 Gummow’s Pinleygreen Strictly Gold, 21 months, ears not quite settled today, well proportioned good body. Slightly low set tail & coat not at its best at the moment;

    3 Cooke’s Montelle Leading Question.

    LB (4,2)

    1 Blower’s Turith Reddy Maid, 17 months, most attractive young bitch with graceful racy outline, lovely coat, fit & well conditioned, feminine head, very superior expression, neat ears, dark eyes, good tailset & carriage, reliable showgirl, moved with precision;

    2 McGhie’s Keillor Eversure Again, 18 months, lively personality & liked doing things her own way! Carrying plenty of weight, harsh jacket, a little slack in topline when moving. Keen expression, good bone. Just too excited to assess properly today.

    OB (6) Very good class. 1 CC, Bower’s Wyndam Rionach at Lakeridge, approaching 4, on her toes from the word go, well fitting jacket, dark knowing eyes full of expression, good reach of neck, firm body, well arched toes, sound mover, splendid coat & condition, one of the few with a good front today;

    2 RCC, Gruettner’s Ch Ulyssia Von Der Emsmuehle, 3 years, all quality bitch of good type & overall proportions, most attractive head & expression, well fitting coat of good texture, well set & carried tail, typy & well balanced who pushed hard for first place but not quite matching winner’s reach & drive in movement today but they are a very good pair. Following very closely was

    3 Bamsey’s Holbam Pearly Star, completed a top class trio.

    NBBE B (5,2)

    1 W Rionach at L; 2 M Leading Question;

    3 S Ballerina Girl.

    BBE B (2)

    1 M Teal;

    2 P Strictly Gold.

    VB (2)

    1 BV, Williamson’s Ch Montelle M’Lady, real favourite of mine who I have admired in the past, at 11½ years she is quite exceptional. Very good Irish who has kept her figure & marvellous coat, well cared for & vey fit looking;

    2 Lucas’ Gabledown Forget Me Not, only 7, not in her best bib & tucker today & had left her daredevil at home. Good bone. Dropping her tail on the move.

    Brace (1)

    1 Stahle & Nichols’ young bitches who by now had had enough, well matched for size & type. Stakes (11) 1 T Reddy Maid;

    2 M Design In Gold;

    3 M Ring Master at T.
