    Judge report:

    IRISH JUDGE CRUFTS 15

    Irish Terriers

    It was an honour & privilege to come back & judge the Irish since my first occasion in 1990. A sincere thank you to Crufts. My appreciation also to the exhibitors for their entries. These included a strong representation from overseas which made for some challenging decisions.

    VD (1)

    1 Anderson’s Ch Kerrykeel Ronan, an impressive 7 years old dog in great form. Possesses a long clean head, well filled under eyes which were well placed & dark giving a keen expression. Has neat ears used well. Neck long with straight front, moderate length of body, strong back, good set on. Would have preferred a little more drive in rear movement. Gave a pleasing outline going round the ring.

    PD (2)

    1 Parry’s Holbam Celtic Prince, well grown with great ring presence. Has a balanced head of good length, nice sized ears with plenty of lift giving a keen expression. Good strength to his long neck into well laid shoulders, chest deep, body well ribbed back with strong loin, muscular well angulated quarters giving good drive behind. Liked his tailset & carriage. Rather loose in front action at present. Overall makes a most attractive picture. BP;

    2 Fowler’s Xanwil Squire Stanley, pleasing type, less forward than 1. Has a well shaped head of good length, flat cheeks, well placed & carried ears, dark eye although appeared a little bold. Has good length of neck, clean shoulders, racy body, good backline, sound in movement. Just a little unsettled at times.

    JD (3)

    1 Bayliss’ Kerrykeel Oisin, very Irish, appealed for elegance, is very well put together. Has a well shaped head of good length, flat skull, clean cheeks, small dark well placed eye with keen expression, neat well placed ears which at times was reluctant to use but when he did gave the desired D’Hurty look. Has a straight front, well ribbed back, strong loin, elegant curve to underline, quarters of moderate angulation, tail on top, scored in movement both ways;

    2 H Celtic Prince;

    3 Gielians & Helmut’s Best Of Doro O’Brady vom Haseland, good balance all through & of correct size, head a little strong in skull. Would prefer a smaller eye. Has fair length of neck, straight front, good bone, fair depth of chest, good set on, showed well.

    PGD (2)

    1 Redman’s Applerock Lord Stefan, presented a pleasing overall balanced picture. Head of good proportions with keen expression. Has a straight front, is well ribbed back, strong loin, moderate angulation, moved with drive though a little unsettled in front. Has well arched feet;

    2 Walls’ Saredon Red Hot Attraction, a nice looking red. Balanced in head although a little strong in skull. Powerful jaw, good bite, moderate length of neck, plenty of depth to chest, well ribbed back, good muscled quarters, well set on tail. Would prefer tighter feet.

    LD (2)

    1 Howarth’s Mikes Fergus, stylish dog, has well shaped head although a little strong in skull. Ears big enough but well placed with lift to give keen expression. Pleasing dark eye, good length of neck, clean shoulders, well developed chest, correct length of back, nice length of leg, well boned with nicely arched feet. Covers the ground well on the move although can overstretch at times;

    2 Rundle’s Sidewater Master Cruiser, whilst within the Standard size would prefer a little more length to leg. Has a well proportioned head, clean cheeks, small dark eye, neat well placed ears giving keen expression, has fair length of neck, good depth of chest, strong back, good set on. Rather unsettled in movement & feet could be tighter.

    OD (9,3a)

    1 Gruettner’s Uomo Mondano Von Der Emsmuehle, headed this lovely class. Correct in size yet manages to present perfect balance all through. Has a long head, flat skull, good strength of jaw, dark well placed small eye giving the keenest of expressions. Neat well placed ears, long neck to well laid shoulders, clean straight front, has good bone, excellent feet, good depth of chest, well ribbed back, muscular loin, strong quarters, hocks well let down allowing for free drive in movement. Displays an excellent topline with tail on top. Finished in harsh coat, presented to advantage. CC;

    2 Gielians & Helmut’s Kft/Ger/Aut/Lux Ch Purple Haze Donovan vom Haseland, slightly heavier than 1 but full of Irish type & character. Has an excellent shaped head, long with powerful jaw, well filled under eye. Neck of fair length, flat shoulders, good depth of chest, well ribbed back, strong loin with slight arch, nice curve to underline, tail on top, well muscled & angulated quarters giving free flowing movement. Well handled. RCC;

    3 Wackerhagen’s Ger Ch Irish Fellow Kennedy, again just a little strong in head but full of type & Irish expression. Has good length of neck, flat shoulders, deep chest, strong back of correct length, has good substance, pleasing feet, tail set on top although a little proud in carriage. Moved with drive, well presented coat.

    GCD (1)

    1 S Red Hot Attraction.

    VB (4)

    1 Ruffles’ Ruffmar Bronzed Ballerina, this 7 years old was in excellent form, fit & firm in body, immaculate presentation. Has a refined head of good length, dark eye, used ears well, clean front, moderate length of body, good depth of chest, moved with purpose;

    2 Gielians & Helmut’s Ger Ch Julia Sari vom Haseland, balanced in head, well placed & carried ears, fair length of neck, good depth of chest. Perhaps a little short in back. Has a well set tail & sound on the move;

    3 Wageringel’s D Ch Umba Von Der Friedenseiche, pleasing in outline, well ribbed back, head of nice proportions. Would prefer a little more lift to ear. Moved soundly.

    PB (3)

    1 Atwell’s Xanwil Sorceress, so very feminine, refined in head with small dark eye. Whilst ears well placed would prefer slightly larger. Has a long neck, straight front, clean shoulders, enough chest for age, well ribbed back, moderate length of body, excellent tailset & carriage, moved freely on excellent feet;

    2 Ruffles’ Holbam Celtic Whisper at Ruffmar, attractive with well proportioned head, nice sized ears, has good reach of neck, straight front. Although a little loose in forehand on the move just lost a little in topline but used her well made quarters to advantage;

    3 Stafford’s Xanwil Ruby Red Princess, in nice form, balanced in head with dark eye. Could be a little more racy in outline but moved well enough on good feet.

    JB (4,1)

    1 Wageringel’s Ch Chulainn’s Ivy, a very nice type, correct in outline, well proportioned head although a little heavy in ear. Has good length of neck, deep chest, well set tail. Movement unsettled at first but once settled proved she could move with drive & purpose;

    2 Gasch’s Classic Celtic Crackers Katniss vom Haseland, racy with balanced head although would prefer a little more lift in ear. Has good dark eye, fair length of neck & back. Would like to see a little more depth of chest. Sound on the move;

    3 Lucas’ Gabledown Mockingbird, one I have admired through her puppy career, unfortunately today was not in the best of form.

    PGB (3)

    1 Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Kate, nice size with pleasing head of good length, neat well placed ears, fair length of neck, has moderate length of back. Ribs a little too rounded. Has good feet, pleasing set on, strong quarters, showed well;

    2 Clymer & Mitchell’s Cilradharc Afternoon Delight, a very nice type with elegant outline, very good head, excellent ears although when lapses concentration does not use to advantage. Today did enough to show off her qualities;

    3 G Mockingbird.

    LB (7,1)

    1 Samel’s Dizzy-s Kariikka, immediately took my eye for perfect balance & symmetry. Has well proportioned head, perfect ears for size & carriage. Well placed eye although a fraction round but only a minor point in an otherwise beautiful bitch. Held a superb topline moving round the ring due to her well constructed front & layback of shoulder. Stylish in movement, set off with correct tailset & carriage. RCC;

    2 Bamsey’s Holbam Pearly Star, another quality bitch with long lean head, good length of neck, clean shoulders, good depth of chest, well ribbed back, slightly longer in loin than 1 but moved out with drive & freedom. Loved her tail set & carriage;

    3 Nevill’s Rosemonelle Isabella, excellent Irish type, racy & of good balance. Pleasing head with small dark well placed eye, correct ears gives you the desired D’Hurty look. Has strong neck of good length, straight front, well developed chest, well ribbed back, good length of leg, firm back, strong loin, muscled quarters with good set on, sound in movement, in good coat.

    OB (9)

    1 Gruettner’s Rosalind Von Der Emsmuehle, just commands attention, alert & on her toes the whole time. Completely at one with her handler. Her well proportioned head with small dark eye gives a keen intelligent expression, along with correct front assembly, racy build, powerful quarters, moves right from all angles. The whole picture is finished with tail set on high & immaculate presentation. A great performance in the big ring, well done. CC & BOB;

    2 Platen & Sonnefeld’s Ch Scooby-Doo Silvester Von Der Emsmuehle, smaller, finer type than 1 but absolutely Irish. Refined head of good length, small dark well placed eye, neat ears giving keen expression. Fair length of neck, straight front, good depth of chest, well ribbed back, nice elegant curve to underline, muscular quarters ensuring plenty of drive in movement;

    3 Anderson’s Kerrykeel Aoife, pleasing head with dark expressive eyes, well placed ears of nice size used well. Reachy neck into sloping shoulders, clean front, ribs flat & well back. Just needing time to develop in chest. Loin strong, positive in movement. Just a little close behind today. Presents a racy outline with good set on.

    GCB (1)

    1 Wooding’s Sujoncla White Horse, feminine veteran bitch with refined head, good bite, has fair length of neck, straight front, moderate depth of chest, correct length of back, deserved her win.
